You may have noticed in the news about the robbery in Kent, UK. of a security depot where they got away with £53 million! The biggest cash robbery ever in the UK by all accounts.

They have arrested some people in connection with the crime but they have been released on bail... surely if they set the bail to £10 million each they would know if they'd caught the right people ;-)

Annual update

It has come to my attention that i am overdue my annual update of this blog well actually "monica forced me to write something so here it is.." :-D

Well whats happened well allot and not much really, but i've just had a nice lunch down the pub so thats nice!

Anyway i might move this blog to my realy homepage where it wont get ignored as much, who knows bi-annual updates maybe on the cards.

Ok a bit lame on the blogging front. Well i have been bogging about my minis but not just general stuff y'see. As far as the minis go we have the little turbo'd saloon on the road again after an 18 month absence, woo yay! We had it professionally tuned on a rolling road - scary experience I can tell you. Seeing your car scream its little heart out at 70-80mph while standing still is quite unnerving, more so the man casually standing in front of it twiddling with engine bits!

Other than that the polytunnel is now built and full scale plant production is now underway, not sure it's achived my aim of moving some of the plants from the house rather we just have more pread between the house and tunnel.

Unfortunately the house diying has taken a bit of a back seat recently due to working on the cars and the bathroom is still in its fitted and tiled but still unfinished stage. I think now the pressure is on to get it finished now the mini is back on the road.

Anyway here's the wee beastie...

Ok, so theres been no new posts for ages!!! I admit it - slacking in the post department! Always seem to be busy though, Mini restoration is coming along slowly although its takena hold for a few weeks while I await a huge pile of clamps to arrive to i can clamp down the new floor pannel so it doesn't end up all wobbly! I've finsihed tiling the bathroom so that room seems like its on the home stretch, I can't see we'll attempt starting any other rooms for a DIY makeover this year, with the exception of the kitchen maybe as i need to get the new bit of worktop out of the garage as i keep tripping over it!

We have also taken delivery of a polytunnel which needs building, hoping to get that done in a few weeks.

I've also been tinkering with the website and also created a new forum for my local mini owners club - so if you like minis come and say hello !

Stupid Bustard

Shock news today, the great bustard is back in Britain. Should we be concerned? Well only if you are a great bustard, the plan seems to be to hide in hedges and shoot them with water pistols to make them aware of the danger of foxes. Funny as I can't remember the last time I saw a fox in a toy shop buying a Super Soaker.

The honeymooners are now back and have had a reality check buy getting straight back to work. I must get round to seeing if they have any photos, would be nice to put some up on the photo site.

Finally got round to doing some work on the mini at the weekend, woo hoo! This does mean that other jobs (notably DIY around the house) have been put on hold for a bit. Managed to get the engine lifted out ready to be put into our other mini, i'd been a bit aprehensive about it as lifting up a 150kg lump of metal seemed like a recipie for disaster. However with a lot of help from my neighbour who made it all look easy it was out in no time. Now the task of cutting out all the rusty bits begins!

Wedding

Well the wedding all went fine at the weekend - with the exception of the brides mother being taken into hospital on the thursday night - operation on friday - out saturday morning in time for the service! Phew! Did mean that we had lots more fun arranging tables and flowers as it seemed only she knew where people were sitting.

My best mans speech hopefully went down ok - at least nobody thumped me afterwards! I wasn't nervous about it until about a minute before I was due to stand up. I hope nobody was offended by my cheesy jokes :-D

The consequence of all this is that i'm totally knackered - it think I need a week of early nights. The sunday after the wedding I seemed to relax with all the stress and panic lifted and I was suddenly tired - even had to have an afternoon snooze! So, I wasn't pleased to be awoken at 4:45am while they set up the Market in Bakewell. Much banging and crashing of stalls. Grrrrrr.

Robbed I tell ya

OK, i think we can justifiably say that we were robbed! It's easy to blame the referee after your team loses a match, but I think this time it's fair comment. Perhaps it was the 3-0 drubbing we gave his home team :-D. Anyway if you have a comment perhaps you'd like to leave them here. A special mention has also go to go out to the idiots in Thetford, a town not too far from where I grew up, who decided they'd attack some Portugese supporters in a pub, what a load of morons.

Other than that, punting on the Cam was an excellent way to spend a few hours on a saturday afternoon. I didn't really know what to expect, the nearest thing i'd ever done before was using a Quant pole but that was many years ago and on considerably bigger boats. So with images of getting a complete soaking firmly set in my brain we set off with our illustrious tour guide/punter Eric along the river. Brief showers of rain almost put a premature stop to our fun as we did several U turns thinking we'd head back only to turn again when the sun shone again. Eventually it was my turn to have a go, Tony and Nagi had already had a try (with varying levels of success!), Monica using the "i'm pregnant so I couldn't possibly...' line to full effect ;-). So with a due sense of dread and regret I stood on the back and tried to propel the punt. Easier said than done is all I can say! It was actually more stable on the back than i'd been expecting but that didn't stop me sending the punt round in circles so there was furious paddling to be done on one side just to keep us going in a straight line. More practice needed I think!

Gambling's for fools

Went for a night out at the greyhound stadium - had just about a good result as
Jemini by that I mean NIL Points. Not a single race won, the nearest we got was on the race we were all taking a break from, our friend Gem said "I think number 5 will win" and sure enough it did! Shame we didn't have any money on it! Not to worry, we were only betting on the Tote, minimum bet £1 so hardly breaking the bank. We stay away from the pit of 'real' bookies and punters out the front. Reminds me of the lyrics to that song by Motorhead ...

I don't even want to talk about the football result, jeez, I don't know. Tsk.

Anyway, better get back to some DIY, new bath needs fitting. Plenty of fun to be had... Hammer time!!

Splashbacks

For those of you that don't know I'm refurbishing a house. Allot of my spare time is spent doing DIY jobs. Recently I have been doing our cloakroom and bathrooms and reversing the bodges done by the previous owner. So for those of you thinking of undertaking doing a bathroom here's some things not to do:

1) Don't stick the sink to the wall with No More Nails, great for skirting boards and dado rails but not sinks. Use bolts and screws instead they work better.

2) No need to put a tiled splashback above the toilet cistern, is your aim that bad?

3) If you put a shower over your bath, extend the tiles up to stop making the walls wet - don't just buy lino with a tile pattern and stick it to the walls.

So, if you are out there Mr Previous Owner, please leave your new house well alone, get someone else to do the work for you.

Well nothing much interesting has happened to me lately, no lottery wins (start buying tickets'd help), nobodys thrown any purple flour at me and still no offer of marriage from Kylie.

That's not to say however that nothing interesting is happening... because my little colega ~~compadre~~ Monica is now in the family way!, Woo Yay. Thats such cool news, soon there will be mini Mons running about! I'd think that she's hoping is a girl but who knows?. Aren't you supposed to be able to tell by what you have cravings for to eat? Currently suffering from morning, afternoon and evening sickness which insn't so great and a bit Poo, nevermind, least of your worries guys, hehehe. If only the bit about the stalk was actually true things would be alot easier.

Anyway I suggest you go see what she's gotta say about it. You can read more here from the other person responsible, we all know the men suffer more, right Nagi? (*Will ducks and runs for cover*).

All in all a very successful weekend, I am now suited up for the wedding - new shirt and tie included - we now look the business! We also got rid (well deposit paid) of the motorcycle thats been sitting in my parents garage for the last few years, they'll be well pleased no doubt as they'll be able to get to the freezer now without tripping over it. Amazing it started after the first few kicks and ran like a dream!

Also the sun has been shining throughout and I am now fully appeciating that my car has A/C, back in winter I wasn't so sure, amazingly I even got the grass cut.

Dumped the Tags feature on this page as well - what a waste of time!
